Composite roof panels – design and application

They are very easy and quick to install and provide great insulation. How are they made, and are they worth it? Composite roof panels are used as roofing for production buildings, big-box stores, or sports facilities. They are very easy and quick to install and provide great insulation. How are they made, and are they worth it? Read today’s post to find out.

How are composite roof panels made?

Regardless of the type, application, or manufacturer, every composite panel consists of:

  • two steel profiled sheets that are the external faces of the composite component. The sheets provide the primary structural property of the panel, the flexural strength;
  • internal insulating layer that provides proper thermal and acoustic insulation and keeps the sheets at the right distance.

Role of composite roof panels

The primary function of composite roof panels is thermal insulation. PIR and PUR roofing solutions are rather popular. The main task of roof panels is to insulate flat roofs that are the most common for industrial or commercial facilities. Note that PIR composite roof panels provide much better resistance to fire. It makes the structure more durable during a fire.

Budget-friendly solution

The key benefit of composite roof panels is the economic side of the system. For example, it takes about four people and a single day to build about 500 m2 of a composite panel roof. It is hard to find a material that is equally quick and easy to install. Another perk of composite panels is their high mechanical resistance; they are hard to damage thanks to metal face sheets.

They can be installed on many types of substrates: wood, steel, or concrete. High fire resistance and suitability for new and retrofit projects add to the pool of profits from composite panels.
